📋 PART 6

The word “baby” hung in the air like a bomb that had just exploded. Hunter’s hand dropped from my arm. He stared at me, mouth open, eyes glassy with too many emotions at once — shock, joy, betrayal, fear.
“You’re… pregnant?” His voice cracked. “And you didn’t tell me?”
I tried to speak but Brenda’s laughter rang out from the doorway where she had boldly walked back in, flanked by two bodyguards no one had invited. She looked radiant, victorious, like she had never been thrown out at all.
“Oh darling, she was waiting for the perfect moment — right after she secured half your inheritance,” Brenda sneered. “Or did you really think that child is yours, Hunter? The DNA test I ordered last week says otherwise.”
Walter roared, “Enough! Get her out of my house!”
But the two bodyguards didn’t move. One of them actually stepped closer to Brenda like they were protecting her. Rosa’s son suddenly looked at the floor, guilt written all over his face. My stomach twisted — he had been the one helping her all along.
Hunter turned to me, breathing hard. “Jillian… is any of this true? The video, the signature, the baby… tell me right now.”
Tears streamed down my face. I grabbed his hands, squeezing desperately. “I swear on my life the baby is yours. I only found out two days ago. I was going to surprise you tonight with a little cake that said ‘Daddy’… but she ruined everything again. The signature is forged. The voice is AI. She’s been planning this for months.”
Brenda clapped slowly. “Beautiful speech. But I have the original prenup you signed in secret, the hotel receipts from when you met Celine’s husband, and now — thanks to my new ally — the real DNA report.” She held up her phone, showing a fake-looking document with Hunter’s name crossed out and “Unknown” written in red.
The room descended into shouting. Walter was calling the police again. Rosa was crying, begging her son to tell the truth. Hunter was looking at me like I was a stranger.
I stepped closer to him, voice breaking. “Hunter, look at me. I love you. I chose you every single day even when your mother tried to destroy me. If you believe nothing else, believe that.”
For one heartbeat, I saw the love in his eyes fight through the doubt.
Then the front door burst open again. This time it was a swarm of reporters and flashing cameras. Someone had leaked the address. Microphones were shoved toward us as reporters yelled:
“Mrs. Jillian! Is it true you faked the pregnancy to trap the heir?”
“Mr. Hunter! Will you divorce her and return to your mother’s side?”
Brenda smiled sweetly at the cameras and waved like a proud mother. “My son has been manipulated. But family always wins in the end.”
Hunter pulled me behind him protectively, but I could feel his body shaking. He whispered so only I could hear, “I want to believe you… but I don’t know who to trust anymore.”
Suddenly the power in the entire house flickered. Every light went out for three full seconds.
When they came back on, Brenda was holding a gun in her perfectly manicured hand, pointed straight at my stomach.
“Midnight is in six hours,” she said calmly. “Sign the papers giving everything back to me… or I make sure that baby never sees tomorrow.”
Hunter stepped forward, shielding me completely.
