📋 PART 5

I yanked the phone away before Hunter could grab it, my fingers trembling so badly I almost dropped it. The whole room went deathly quiet. Walter’s eyes narrowed. Rosa’s son took a small step back like he already knew something bad was coming. Hunter just stared at me, pain and fear mixing in his eyes.

“Jillian,” he said slowly, voice low and dangerous, “give me the phone.”

I shook my head, tears spilling over. “Not yet… please. Let me explain first.”

The phone rang again — loud, insistent, vibrating like a warning. I answered on speaker before I could stop myself. Brenda’s voice came through, sweet and poisonous.

“Hello, darling family. Miss me already? Jillian, be a good girl and tell them the truth. Or should I play the video where you admit you only married Hunter for the money and the name?”

Hunter’s face crumpled. “Mom… stop this.”

Brenda laughed, cold and sharp. “Oh sweetheart, I’m just getting started. That forged signature on the trust documents? I had help from someone very close to you. Someone who’s been in this house the whole time. And that little black car outside? It’s carrying the original marriage contract with a very interesting clause Jillian never told you about.”

I felt the floor tilt under me. The clause. The one I signed in secret three days before our wedding because Brenda had threatened to ruin my father’s business if I didn’t. The one that said if our marriage ever ended, I would walk away with nothing — not even my dignity.

Walter stood up so fast his chair fell over. “Security! Stop that car!”

But it was too late. The front door burst open. Two lawyers and a police officer walked in, followed by a woman I had never seen before — tall, elegant, and holding a thick envelope marked “EVIDENCE.”

She looked straight at me. “Mrs. Jillian, you’re under investigation for fraud and conspiracy. We have your fingerprints on the original necklace and a recorded conversation where you allegedly agreed to help frame Rosa in exchange for a bigger cut of the inheritance.”

Hunter stepped in front of me like a shield, but his voice cracked. “This is insane. She would never—”

The woman smiled sadly and played a short audio clip on her phone. My own voice — or a perfect fake of it — said: “If it gets Brenda off my back, I’ll do whatever it takes.”

I felt like the world was collapsing. I grabbed Hunter’s arm. “It’s not me! I swear! Someone is framing me the same way they framed Rosa!”

Outside, the black car’s door opened. Brenda stepped out in fresh clothes and perfect makeup, smiling like a queen who had just reclaimed her throne. She waved at us through the window.

Walter’s face turned to stone. “Get her out of here.”

But Brenda only blew a kiss and called out loud enough for everyone to hear:

“Tick tock, children. You have until midnight to give me back control of the trust… or I release everything. Every dirty little secret. Including the one about who really is the father of the baby Jillian is carrying.”

The room exploded into chaos.

Hunter whipped around to look at me, eyes wide with shock.

“Baby…?”

I couldn’t breathe. I hadn’t even told him yet.
